Third front certain to form next govt: Pillai

9 April 2009

Kasaragod: The bright political prospects enjoyed by Congress and BJP has become a thing of past and the Left and secular parties would form government after the Lok Sabha polls, CPI-M politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said Thursday.

"The Left supported Third secular alternative minus the BJP and Congress is all set to form next government at the Centre, fulfilling the long standing wishes of the people, and provide a new sense of direction to the country's political history," Pillai told a Meet-the-Press Programme here.

The Congress and the BJP, which are set to get around 100 odd seats each, would not be able to muster support from other parties and the third front mooted by the Left parties is going to stake the claim to form the next government, he said.

Pillai flayed Congress President Sonia Gandhi for her remarks against the CPI-M at her election meetings in Kerala yesterday that the Left party was "living in the past" and said the CPI-M do not forget the past.

Pillai said CPI-M had not forgotten the past and said the Third Front after coming to power, would review all the 'shady' dealings right from the Bofors deal to the latest missile contract from an Israeli firm and would frozen the Indo-U S nuclear deal, he said.

"The left parties have not forgotten the past and would make special efforts to expose all the shady deals signed by the Congress and the BJP in the past," Pillai said.

He said the CPI-M is not intending to harasss People Democratic Party leader Abdul Naser Madani, against whom several allegations of terror netoworking were being made, just on the basis of media reports.

The government would initiate action after the cases pending against him were examined by the Court, Pillai said.

He said the CBI has often become the tool of the ruling parties which used the agency to target the political adversaries.

He said the CPI-M led Left Democratic Front Government in Kerala was trying to have patch up with its ally Janata Dal after the party was denied ticket from Kozhikode Lok Sabha seat in this election.
