New Delhi: Taking umbrage at NDA prime ministerial candidate L K Advani's remarks against the Third Front, the CPI(M) Saturday alleged that the BJP had a clandestine understanding with the Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee on a post-poll alliance to form the governmnet at the Centre.
CPI(M) top leaders Sitaram Yechury and Salim Mohammad said even though Ms Banerjee had disclosed her intention to fight elections together with the Congress to take on the CPI(M)-led Left Front in West Bengal, she had indeed assured the NDA leadership also of her support.
Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the two-day party Central Committee (CC) meeting which began here, the CPI(M) leaders questioned Mr Advani as to how he would like to explain his party's relationship with the Trinamool Congress.
Whether this was an alliance, a front or an adjustment of seat sharing? Mr Advani had earlier dismissed the possibility of the Third Front assuming power at the Centre after the Lok Sabha polls claiming that ''India has been divided into a bipolar polity.''
The Left leader said Mr Advani attacked the Third Front and the Congress in his speech yesterday at Kolkata but did not utter a single word against Ms Banerjee.
Mr Yechury informed that the party would release the election manifesto here Sunday. He said the all the 90 CC members were discussing the political situation, besides the finalisation of the list of the candidates for Kerala, Haryana, UP and other states.
''We are also discussing our alliance partners in different states. Our priority is to form a non-BJP and a non-Congress governmnet at the Centre,'' he said.
The CC also discussed in the morning session the preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.
