Nashik: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Chaggan Bhujbal Sunday justified the party's demand for 50 per cent seats in the Assembly polls and sharing of chief ministerhsip stating that its strength had increased than that of its alliance partner Congress.
Speaking at the state-level meeting of the NCP here he said, ''The NCP's demanded for 50 per cent of the seats in the Assembly polls and a share of the chief minister's chair is justified as the party's strength in the state has increased than that of the Congress. In such a situation why should we take a secondary position.''
He termed the voice of partymen that NCP supremo and Union Agriculture Minsiter Sharad Pawar should be the choice for the next prime minsitership of the country and criticised the claims for the country's top position made by other smaller parties.
Taking a dig on RJD chief Lalu Prasad's claim for the prime-minister's post, Mr Bhujbal said, ''Even people for smaller parties are demanding their share in power, then can't our able leader Sharad Pawar make his claim for the same.''
The one-day state-level convention of the NCP began with a flag hoisting ceremony at Mahakavi Kalidas Kala Mandir, the venue for meet and was attended by all senior leaders of the party like Union Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel, Maharashtra Finance minister Jayant Patil and party national spokesperson D P Tripathi alongwith R R Patil and Tariq Anwar.
Later in the day, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar would address a huge public rally and also convention of the NCP activists at golf club ground in the evening.
